Tieton Mosaic Public Art installation
Tieton Mosaic and Catholic Charities Mosaic Mural 2023
After almost 3 years in conversation and two years in the making, this public art mosaic mural is finally up in the new Catholic Charities multi-family complex in Tieton, WA. This collaborative mosaic mural serves as a visual celebration of the Tieton community and the transformative power of collective dialogue. The imagery is inspired by the rich conversations and stories that emerged during the community art workshops held in the community center.
Cultivando voces translates to “cultivating voices” and it serves as a testament to the importance of empowering diverse voices and fostering a sense of unity and belonging through workshops and art as a social practice. The Imagery depicted in the mural draws inspiration from the conversations that highlighted the scenic beauty of Tieton, the flora and fauna, the creatures that call this place home, the iconic apple orchards that dot the landscape, and to all those essential worker hands that tend to the land and help make Tieton what it is today.
I want to give a special thank you to Tieton Arts and Humanities, Tieton Mosaic, Tieton Fueling Station, Catholic Charities housing services, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Tieton community for coming out and inviting me to be the lead artist in this collective project. It has been an honor to be a part of this collaborative mosaic mural, and it is my hope that each piece of mosaic tile serves as a source of inspiration for current and future generations to come!
