Relief Block Printing Process

In this video, I captured part of the relief printing process— which is inking the block (in this case a linoleum block), and running it through the printing press. The roller on the press applies pressure to the block, leaving behind and impression or a print.

The relief block in this video was made by cutting into a linoleum block by using gouges or wood cutting tools. In working the block, I cut away the areas that were not meant to be printed. These cut away areas are the negative space in the finished design, while the ink covers what remains of the design (positive space).
