Tomatillos
Tomatillos
This copper etching and aquatint with soft ground is rooted in the quiet intimacy of food preparation, memory, and care. The image depicts my marina’s hands peeling back the delicate skins of tomatillos, which were later used to make salsa.
The table top holds the imprint of tomatillo leaves, pressed into the soft ground before the plate was etched. These impressions become traces of the plants themselves, embedding the surface with memory and connecting the hands to the ingredients, the land, and the labor of making.
This print was created using traditional etching, aquatint, and soft ground techniques. The tomatillo leaves were imprinted directly onto the plate, etched, and then printed by hand on a manual printing press. The color is hand tinted with watercolors. Each print is part of a limited edition and may vary slightly due to the hand-printing process. These subtle differences are part of the beauty of traditional printmaking.
Each piece will be titled, signed, and numbered.
