Cuetlaxóchitl

$70.00

Cuetlaxóchitl, commonly known as “poinsettias,” are indigenous to Mexico and its name comes from Nahuatl, roughly translating to “flower that withers” or “leathery flower,” a nod to their delicate yet enduring nature. In some indigenous communities, these flowers symbolized purity and renewal, and they were used in ceremonies and medicinal practices. Due to colonization, Cuetlaxóchitl became associated with the holiday season, a blending of indigenous tradition with colonial influence.

The design was sketched and carved by hand, then printed with traditional oil based printmaking ink onto 100% cotton, acid free paper. Each piece will be titled, signed and labeled as an open edition.
