Chile de Todos los Moles
Chile de Todos los Moles
The phrase "el chile de todos los moles" is a popular Mexican saying that can be translated as "the chile in all the moles" or "the ingredient in every mole." It carries a figurative meaning, similar to describing someone who is involved in everything or has a hand in every situation.
Mole, a traditional Mexican sauce, is made with a rich variety of ingredients, often featuring different types of chiles. In this context, "el chile" represents someone or something ubiquitous—always present, sometimes to an exaggerated or meddlesome degree.
For instance, if someone frequently inserts themselves into various affairs or situations, you might say, "Es como el chile de todos los moles" (They're like the chile in all the moles). Depending on the tone and context, this phrase can be humorous, critical, or affectionate.
Para ustedes, ¿quién es el chile de todos los moles?
This print was created using wood type from a workshop I attended at Hilton Wood Type Museum, and later finished with four layers of screen-printed chiles that I hand-drew. It’s part of a limited edition of just nine prints.
The letters were printed at the Hamilton letterpress wood type museum by using an oil-based printmaking ink onto 100% cotton, acid free paper. The chiles are all hand drawn and screen printed by using 4 different colors. Each piece will be signed and labeled as an Edition out of 9.
*This piece printed on UW Sevens point Riverpoint 250gsm paper.
Each print is produced using a manual letterpress; therefore, each print will be unique and may differ slightly from the pictured original. This is the beauty of working with wood type.
