Moviendo Agua
Moviendo Agua begins my MFA thesis installation, This is the first panel of five—and returns to a story I carry with me. I think of mi Madrina, moving water into my grandparents’ land in Mexico: guiding it by hand with a shovel, watching it run into the furrows, trusting the slow work of gravity, and the only one she has known her whole life. The water arrives the way memory does—trickling, steady, until it reaches my abuelos huerta. Here, water becomes a line of care and survival, traveling through the tierra to nourish the maíz, the crop that has always felt like a relative. Built from scanned relief prints and laser-cut black mat board, the silhouettes and their shifting shadows hold the presence of that labor of tradition, repetition, and essential to keep them alive.
